This space was first built in the 1970s. Over the course of 50 years, it has been transformed into a supermarket, a restaurant, a private home, a repair shop, and a factory. Each time, the useless parts were broken as needed, and the parts that needed to be added were expanded in a haphazard manner. As the space changed with a focus on usability rather than aesthetics, the original appearance of the space gradually disappeared with time.
While exploring the space, we discovered the value that the new could not give in the structure of the past. The paint stains on the floor and the bricks that were padded were excellent materials to remember the years. We focused on regenerating the space of the past by keeping all these traces alive. It needed to be reinterpreted as a space of the past and a contemporary space.
ONION respects the structure that seems to be separate but organically connected, and is made with carefully added materials in consideration of the user's function. The furniture was also made with architectural elements so that it could be a part of the space. The plants that coexist together are also located here in a familiar way as they have always been.
This space will be a place where there is rest and services that purify the mind, and it will be a haven that will calm the noise in the heads of those who visit the space. We hope that this place will be remembered as a place that inspires new life for some and gives complete relaxation to others.
